Jakob Dylan (ex The Wallflowers) is back promoting a new album, I see. As per, he's wanting to escape the (huge) shadow of his father (Bob Dylan, in case you hadn't guessed), and complaining of critics who compare his music to that of Dylan Senior. Which, you might think, is fair enough.
But ask yourself this. If he really did want to avoid comparisons, and sidestep accusations that he's merely trading off his father's name, why didn't he call himself Jakob Zimmerman?

Because his fatehr's legal name, before he was born was Bob Dylan. Therefore, his legal birth name is Jakob Dylan.
If he DID use Jakob Zimmerman, people would be like WHY'S HE TRYING TO ESCAPE HIS FATHER'S SHADOW? because they do sorta kinda look alike. Somehow. How dare he look like his father!
Thanks for the info. There's the third way, of course; take on a totally different name, as Mike McGear, Nicolas Cage and others have done...
But I guess comparisons are inevitable.
