Cooper (Re)Union

Hooray! After a short hiatus, my favourite YouTube poster is back. DigitronTV (see Fri Aug 25th 2006) has re-emerged with the username JahPunk, and, appropriately, his offerings are mostly punk and reggae, with the occasional foray into punky reggae. Among the many gems are this piece featuring a young John Cooper-Clarke, still working in the toolshop at Salford Tech, talking to an only-slightly-older Tony Wilson, presumably from the latter's So It Goes show on Granada TV. Enjoy! And see more of Digitron's wares here.

Ace. I never cared much for the Salford accent until JCC's nasal tones turned it, before my very ears, into something stained and grimy but undeniably beautiful.

I never saw him perform, but maybe I will; I think he's still around isn't he? Doubt he still tries to carry off the 'Don't Look Back'-era Dylan look these days though, but I bet he's still skinny.

'Beesley Street' was always my favourite (and about the only one I can remember anyway.)

He's most definitely still around, and may well have a new disc out this year (apparently Epic Records still have him under contract!). He's also supposed to be working with the Arctic Monkeys. If you do get a chance to see him, grab it. He can ad-lib with the best of them, and he has a fair amount of new-ish material he's been toting around for the last ten or fifteen years, like "Are You The Business" and "I Wrote The Songs".
